A letter to my future self

Dear Lydia,

I know that right now you’re probably not feeling too great. In fact, I think that probably isn’t exactly strong enough a word. You’re not feeling too great. And that’s a fact. I mean why would you? The majority of your best friends are leaving for university within the next three weeks and you’re stuck in your little town with its small town mindset for another year, almost as if your life has been put on pause. I know that it’s not fair; you got incredible grades and a place at university and if it wasn’t for stupid accommodation and stupid student finance you’d be on your way too. You’d be living in London, having the time of your life (when you head wouldn’t be stuck in textbooks). But you can’t think of this experience like that; you have a year, a year that so many students would die for, a year to discover who you really are.

You may not want to read this write now but take it as blessing; this year is going to be the best year of your life. And why you may hate your friends (or, at the very least, try your hardest not to) for being able to move on you have so much opportunity awaiting you. Think about it carefully before getting upset or becoming resentful for as much as you may be annoyed at them now, you will spend this year having the time of your life. Think of all the places you can go to, all the things you can see. You know your dream of going to Canada? Do it. Explore the world for it is your oyster and there is nothing better than realising your dreams, than unleashing a passion for life. Use this year to rediscover who you are. Go on some sort of Eat Pray Love experience and learn to love again. Become spiritual and learn to believe not just in some higher power but in the power of yourself. Do something you’ve never dared to do before. Learn to drive, a new language, an instrument. Take a pilates class and laugh at yourself when you find out just how unfit you really are. Always smile and never forget the power of laughter. Continue to work to save yourself some money then move away for a few months. Go to London, Paris. Find a job and roommates and enjoy yourself. Maybe even go to New York. Do your hair how you want and pierce what you want and wear whatever the hell you want. Your body is a canvas so treat it as a work of art. Be experimental. Go on a roadtrip to wherever your heart desires with the sand between your toes and the wind in your hair. Swim in the ocean, sleep under the stars. Make a bonfire at the beach and huddle in a blanket with those dear to you as you mull about what the future holds. Try to plan for the future but never forget that spontaneity is everyone’s favourite form of madness. Write a diary to fan the flames in your heart and even write poetry if you’re in the mood. Attempt to eat well but if you can’t, who cares, nobody will judge you. Don’t be afraid of judgement, it’s what helps us move on. Search endlessly for every possible internship and harass those who don’t call you back. Make this year a year full of opportunity. Search for peace with those who have harmed you and ask for forgiveness to those you have harmed. Be happy. They say it is absence which makes the heart grow fonder but I’m telling you that it is happiness that makes the heart grow fuller. A year can only be as good as what you make it so make it the best it could possibly be. You may not want this opportunity but you have it so don’t let it go to waste, you’re far too intelligent for that. Never underestimate the power of fate; before you lose your mind in textbooks and revision you’ve been given another chance to live. Breathe again. Take this chance by the reigns and write the first chapter of your adventure, draw an outline of the person you want to be and let luck fill in the rest.

 Just don’t waste this.

If this isn’t about race, why are racists donating to darren wilson?

In response to the GoFundMe Campaign for Darren Wilson, people are asking GoFundMe to close the account due to the fact that it incites hate and obviously violates their terms and conditions

The donors and the comments attached to the campaign are sick and simply racist. They asking for the “Killing of Niggers”, “purging the savages” and to support a “fellow White” individual that has the right to murder Black people.

Pass this around. Report the Darren Wilson page as for the violation

I will add their contact info as soon as I find it.

What they won’t show you on CNN tonight: Ferguson residents line a parade of roses down W Florissant, leading to where Mike Brown was taken from this world. #staywoke #powerful #insolidarity
